I'm sure plenty of you have heard of this book, but I can't talk about my favorite books and not mention this book.
This week's pick:
A friend of mine who has twins who are nothing short of a miracle and a HUGE labor of love, introduced me to this book. She told me one day, "You have to get On The Night You Were Born, I read it to the girls on their birthday and bawled all the way through." Well sure enough, I think I had to read it at least 10 times before I could get through it without crying. The illustrations in this book are amazing, and the message is even more beautiful. Nancy Tillman's books are all about telling children how special and loved they are. This one starts out, "On the night you were born, the world smiled with such wonder that the stars peeked in to see you and the night wind whispered life will never be the same..." I don't want to violate any copyright here (and I don't exactly know if typing out the words does that, but I assume it might) so I'll just tell you that it goes on to say that "On the night you were born" the moon stayed up until morning, polar bears danced until dawn, and none of the ladybugs flew away. So whenever you see the moon stay up, or ladybugs land and decide to stay...it's because they're all hoping to see YOU smile. And it ends saying that there never has, and never will be anyone else like you. All of her books end with the three words "You Are Loved." I love how beautifully they illustrate just what a special gift each child is to their parents and that everyone is special in their own way. This is one of my favorite things to give as birthday or shower gift.

I received this as a gift when my son was born and it STILL makes me cry! It's such a beautiful book!
